Quartz Pool Finishes in Rockwall, TX
Rockwall Pool Resurfacing resurfaces pools in Rockwall, Texas with quartz pool finishes, the colored-quartz plaster blends that makers sell as Diamond Brite, QuartzScapes, Krystalkrete, Marquis and Luna Quartz, over sound old plaster or after a chip-out. The National Plasterers Council calls quartz one of nature's hardest minerals, non-reactive to pool chemicals, and rates a quartz finish a 10 to 15 year surface.
The Council lists quartz as an affordable cost option, a step above economical white plaster and below the upgraded pebble and polished finishes. Typical Dallas–Fort Worth prices in 2026 run $6,500 to $10,000 for quartz plaster. We'll go over the color, the state of the old surface and the start-up with you, and the estimate is free.

Quartz finish blends and colors
A quartz finish is plaster with colored quartz in the mix. The National Plasterers Council describes the colored aggregate as a specialized ceramic-coated sand sold in pre-mixed plaster products; it gives a surface harder than standard plaster and much better at standing up to swings in water chemistry, though extreme water chemistry can still cause some surface problems. Depending on how it is troweled and exposed, the finish ranges from smooth to textured.
Diamond Brite, QuartzScapes and ColorScapes
SGM makes Diamond Brite in batches of 4,000 to 20,000 lb from natural ingredients, so its shade varies from batch to batch. NPT's QuartzScapes blends graded natural quartz, colored quartz accent stones, polymers, pozzolans and white Portland cement, comes in 18 colors, and NPT says natural quartz is ten times harder and more durable than marble. Its ColorScapes mixes colored quartz with white marble, white cement and NPT's Lobo modifier, and costs less than QuartzScapes.
Krystalkrete, Marquis, Luna Quartz and PebbleQuartz
CL Industries' Krystalkrete combines enriched white Portland cement with quartz aggregates in different sizes, colors and pigments, and the maker claims quartz gives a strong, nonporous, stain-resistant finish that resists erosion from chemical imbalances. Premix-Marbletite's Marquis is a factory blend of polymer-modified cement and quartz, with crystals added for shimmer in Marquis Magic. Wet Edge calls Luna Quartz its 100% quartz, entry-level finish, and Pebble Technology International says its PebbleQuartz, made with silica-based quartz in place of soft marble aggregate, is much more durable than marble-based quartz finishes.
Finish color and water color
NPT's rule of thumb is that white, blue or gray pigment gives blue water and green, tan, brown, gold or black gives green water, while shade from tall trees or buildings makes the water look darker and the shallow end always looks lighter. Wet Edge adds that a deep, dark water color may not be possible in a shallow pool, and that red, gold, green or brown hardscape around the pool can push the color toward teal. For more texture than quartz, there are pebble pool finishes; for a surface ground smooth after it cures, polished pool finishes. The guide to pool finishes compared sets them side by side.

How a quartz finish goes on: preparation, troweling and exposure
On an existing pool, quartz starts the way pool replastering does, over sound old plaster with a bond coat or after a chip-out. CL Industries wants any old paint or sealer taken off by acid washing or sandblasting before Krystalkrete goes on, allows its PermaKote as the bond coat, and has weepers and plumbing leaks repaired at least 24 hours before plastering.
Thickness and troweling
NPT applies QuartzScapes 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick and explains why the range matters: material that is too thin dries too quickly, and material that is too thick sets slowly and can trap moisture, which grays the finish. Hard troweling compacts the mix, driving the larger aggregate down and the smaller up. SGM trowels a Diamond Brite scratch coat onto the walls from the shady side to the sunny side, lets it turn tacky, then places the finish coat from the deep-end bowl toward the shallow end, and recommends slick troweling.
Exposing the quartz
The cement film over the quartz is removed to expose it. SGM calls water washing with brushes by far the most effective technique for standard Diamond Brite, but not for its Quartz Series, which is exposed with acid starting from a 25% muriatic solution; SGM says acid exposure is easier and common in cold climates but can leave a less uniform finish. NPT acid-washes QuartzScapes once it has hardened, 4 hours at the least and most often the next day, and warns that relying on the acid wash alone usually leaves cement paste over some of the quartz. CL Industries places sodium bicarbonate around the bowl so that area isn't over-exposed.

Quartz finishes in Rockwall's weather and water
SGM wants Diamond Brite materials and work areas above 50°F and below 100°F for 24 hours before and 72 hours after placement, and CL Industries applies Krystalkrete only above 40°F. Rockwall's airport weather station logged 22 days at 100°F or above in 2026 through September 29, peaking at 106°F on August 23, and fell to 10°F on December 23, 2022, so a plastering day here is picked to sit inside that window. Rockwall Pool Resurfacing will talk through the timing with you.
Hard water and dark colors
SGM warns that water high in metals and minerals discolors Diamond Brite, and that hard or high-alkalinity water makes the plaster effloresce and form calcium scale, especially in dark colors such as Midnight Blue, Onyx, Tahoe Blue and French Gray. The City of Rockwall's 2025 water report lists total hardness of 96.0 to 200 ppm and total alkalinity up to 138 ppm, the North Texas Municipal Water District's plant figures; on the U.S. Geological Survey's scale, that hardness range runs from moderately hard to very hard.
About 7.4 miles north, Lavon is served mostly by Bear Creek Special Utility District, which buys its treated water from the same North Texas Municipal Water District plant at Wylie, and Rockwall Pool Resurfacing also handles quartz pool finishes in Lavon.

How much does it cost to resurface a pool with diamond brite finish?
National figures for 2026 put quartz such as Diamond Brite at roughly $6 to $8 per square foot installed, more than plaster and less than pebble, and national 2025 figures put quartz plaster at $7 to $10 per square foot, or $7,000 to $10,000 for a 1,000 sq ft pool. The pool's size and the old surface decide the rest, so Rockwall Pool Resurfacing prices each pool free after seeing it.
How long does quartz pool finish last?
The National Plasterers Council rates quartz a 10 to 15 year surface. SGM's own pages give Diamond Brite three figures: designed to last 8 to 12 years in its maintenance guide, typically 10 to 15 years on its product page, and 8 to 12 again on its comparison page. Warranty terms are a separate thing: NPT gives QuartzScapes a 10-year standard warranty, and Wet Edge gives Luna Quartz 10 years on residential pools and 5 on commercial. Those are the makers' warranties, never ours.
What are some common problems with Diamond Brite pool finishes?
The makers name several themselves. Shade varies between production batches, so SGM has installers blend batches in each mix and voids warranties submitted without valid batch numbers; too much calcium chloride accelerator, over 2% of the cement's weight, can discolor the finish; and Wet Edge says quartz finishes may show trowel marks and color shading. SGM, Premix-Marbletite and Pebble Technology International all say some loss of aggregate is expected in a new finish and isn't a defect.
Which pool finish is better for my pool, quartz or plaster?
Quartz lasts longer on paper: the National Plasterers Council rates it a 10 to 15 year surface against 5 to 8 for traditional white plaster, and says quartz aggregates make a much more durable surface than standard plaster. White plaster still costs least; the Council calls it the most affordable pool finish on the market, and says any of the finish options can give years of reliable performance in a well-made, well-maintained pool.
How do you take care of a quartz pool finish?
Brush it with nylon: SGM says stainless-steel bristles, meant for exposed pebble or unpainted concrete, will mark Diamond Brite. CL Industries' Krystalkrete sheet keeps the water within ±0.3 on the Langelier Saturation Index, chlorine no higher than 3 ppm and cyanuric acid within 40 to 60 ppm. SGM also advises draining a Diamond Brite pool only when absolutely necessary and never in its first year, because the finish needs to stay submerged.
