Pebble Pool Finishes in Rockwall, TX
Rockwall Pool Resurfacing resurfaces pools in Rockwall, Texas with pebble pool finishes, the exposed-pebble surfaces that makers sell as Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, StoneScapes and River Rok, among others, on existing pools and in remodels. The National Plasterers Council calls pebble the most durable pool surface available, because river pebbles are chemically inert, and rates it a 12 to 18 year surface.
Pebble finishes arrived in the 1980s after decades of white plaster, NPT says, and Pebble Technology International dates itself to 1987. Typical Dallas–Fort Worth prices in 2026 run $7,000 to $15,000 or more for a pebble finish. Pebble finish lines and pebble sizes
The National Plasterers Council describes pebble finishes as small pebbles, glass and other materials embedded through the finish in a broad range of colors; the surface comes from hard troweling, compacting the aggregate and exposing it, and it is textured. The makers' lines differ mostly in pebble size.
Pebble Technology International's lines
PebbleTec, the original, uses the company's largest pebbles for a natural, non-slip texture. PebbleSheen, its most popular finish, uses slightly smaller pebbles for a more refined texture, and PebbleFina uses the smallest for the smoothest texture of any aggregate finish. The company sources naturally tumbled stones from New Zealand to Chile and screens each one for size.
StoneScapes, River Rok and other blends
NPT sells StoneScapes in Micro, Mini and Regular pebble sizes, Mini being its most popular size for over 15 years. SGM's River Rok is a factory blend of natural aggregates and polymer-modified Portland cement, Wet Edge says its Serenity Stone uses a larger pebble than any other finish on the market, and Premix-Marbletite calls its Freestone a non-abrasive surface.
Glass beads, shells and polished pebble
Some blends add glass beads or shells. Pebble Technology International and Wet Edge both say seashell finishes aren't guaranteed against the shells breaking down or losing color. Polished pebble, such as Wet Edge's Primera Stone, is ground smooth with diamond abrasives after it cures; polished pool finishes cover that end of the range.

How a pebble finish goes onto an existing pool
Pebble Technology International's remodel process strips the existing surface first, to leave a smooth, blank canvas, and the company recommends its Certified and Elite Builders for complex remodels with structural work and its Authorized Installers for jobs that mainly put a new finish on an existing pool. Going back is harder: SGM says replacing Pebble Tec with its smoother Diamond Brite means chipping the pebble out first, more involved prep than pool replastering over old plaster.
Spraying, troweling and exposing
The stone blend is mixed with cement, water, pigment and additives, sprayed on, hand-troweled to compact it and washed to expose the pebbles. Pebble Technology International's data sheet calls for a scratch coat and then a second coat to bring the finish to thickness, at least 3/8 inch for PebbleSheen, and cuts the finish back at least 1/2 inch where it meets tile so it can key in.
The next day and the fill
The day after, the surface is lightly scraped to remove loose or protruding pebbles and acid-treated to clear the cement residue, and the pool is filled immediately and without a stop. NPT applies StoneScapes 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick and cites the National Plasterers Council's coverage guideline of 200 square feet at 1/2 inch per 1,000 lb batch.
Start-up for a pebble finish
Pebble Technology International's range for the first 28 days is pH 7.0–7.4, total alkalinity 80–90 ppm and calcium hardness 200–250 ppm. It says never to fill with soft water, to add no salt for 28 days and no heat for at least 14, and that frequent acid additions are normal, as are a few loose pebbles in the first weeks. Rockwall Pool Resurfacing will talk the start-up through with you before the fill.

Pebble against quartz and plaster: durability, texture and grip
The National Plasterers Council rates pebble a 12 to 18 year surface, against 10 to 15 for quartz and 5 to 8 for white plaster, and says quartz aggregates make plaster harder and far more resistant to water chemistry. Quartz pool finishes are smoother: SGM calls its Diamond Brite smoother than textured Pebble Tec, and says pebble hides minor staining better because its texture breaks up the surface. The guide to pool finishes compared covers all of them.
Strength and slip resistance
Pebble Technology International's published tests give PebbleTec a compressive strength of 9,913 psi at 28 days and a wet dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.63. NPT reports wet dynamic coefficients of 0.73 for StoneScapes White Regular and 0.71 for White Mini from the Tile Council of North America's tests.
Texture underfoot
The Council judges exposed-aggregate finishes by texture, not smoothness, and has set no tolerance for texture; a textured finish can be smooth or rough. Smaller pebbles feel smoother, which puts PebbleFina and NPT's Micro size at the smooth end of the range.

(469) 653-0486Pebble finishes in Rockwall's freezes, heat and water
Rockwall's airport weather station recorded 47 freezing nights in 2022 and 33 in 2025, and fell to -1°F on February 16, 2021. Pebble Technology International allows plastering in cold weather when the daily average is above 40°F and the shell isn't frozen, NPT keeps a new finish from freezing for its first 48 hours so it can reach at least 500 psi, and Pebble Technology says PebbleTec isn't recommended for use out of the water and isn't warranted against freeze-thaw damage.
Steps, benches and the waterline
The National Plasterers Council says steps, benches and sun ledges that sit at the waterline or hold ponded water are the areas most at risk from freezing and thawing, and advises keeping at least 4 inches of water over them; a fully submerged finish typically stays above freezing when the air doesn't.
Summer and the fill water
Lavon Dam, the nearest NOAA station with temperature normals, averages 94.8 days a year at 90°F or above (1991–2020). Pebble Technology International keeps total dissolved solids at 400–600 ppm during start-up; the City of Rockwall's 2025 water report lists total dissolved solids of 182 to 455 ppm and total hardness of 96.0 to 200 ppm, the North Texas Municipal Water District's plant figures.

(469) 653-0486Pebble pool finish questions and answers
How much does it cost to resurface a pool with Pebble Tec?
Typical Dallas–Fort Worth prices in 2026 put Pebble Tec or Pebble Sheen at $8,000 to $15,000 or more, and one Dallas-area builder adds $2,000 to $4,000 when a spa is resurfaced with the pool. Nationally, Pebble Tec resurfacing ran $10 to $20 per square foot in 2025. Rockwall Pool Resurfacing prices your pool free once it has seen it.
How do I resurface my PebbleTec pool?
A worn pebble finish is usually stripped and replaced: Pebble Technology International's remodel process removes the existing surface first, and SGM says switching from Pebble Tec to a smoother quartz finish means chipping the pebble out. Small spots can be patched instead; E-Z Patch's pebble repair is chipped at least 3/8 inch deep, troweled flush and exposed with a sponge or a light spray.
Which pool finish is better, quartz or pebble?
The National Plasterers Council calls pebble the most durable surface available and rates it a 12 to 18 year surface, against 10 to 15 for quartz. Quartz is smoother and comes in colors from vivid blues and reds to beige and soft greens; SGM adds that smoother quartz finishes, especially light colors, show mineral staining and mottling sooner and need more disciplined maintenance.
How long does a pebble finish last?
The National Plasterers Council rates pebble a 12 to 18 year surface. Pebble Technology International gives no lifespan in years, saying it depends on water chemistry, climate and maintenance, and its material warranty on residential pools runs 5 years; Wet Edge's pebble lines carry a 15-year residential limited warranty when registered within 60 days and installed by a certified Wet Edge installer. Those warranties are the makers' own.
Is a pebble pool finish rough on your feet?
It depends on the pebble size. PebbleFina, with the smallest pebbles, is Pebble Technology International's smoothest aggregate texture, NPT calls its Micro size its smoothest StoneScapes, and Premix-Marbletite calls its Freestone non-abrasive; the original PebbleTec uses the largest pebbles. Steps and benches are meant to grip: the National Plasterers Council says they shouldn't be overly smooth.
