Polished Pool Finishes in Rockwall, TX

Rockwall Pool Resurfacing applies polished pool finishes in Rockwall, Texas: polished marble such as Hydrazzo and Durazzo, polished pebble such as Primera Stone, and blends with polished glass, all ground smooth with diamond abrasives. The National Plasterers Council describes a polished finish as a smooth surface with the look of exposed aggregate, its mix of aggregate sizes and colors brought out by polishing tools as the last step, and rates it an 8 to 12 year surface.

The Council puts polished finishes in its upgraded cost tier, alongside pebble. CL Industries markets its polished marble as silky smooth yet non-slip and says it is popular for entertainment pools and spas. We'll go over the aggregate, the color and the start-up with you before anything is booked, and the estimate is free.

Polished pool finish lines: marble, pebble and glass

The makers polish three kinds of aggregate: marble, natural pebble and glass. Each line below is the maker's own product, named as the maker describes it.

Polished marble: Hydrazzo and Durazzo

CL Industries' Hydrazzo combines white and colored marble aggregates, white Portland cement, graded color aggregates and proprietary ingredients for higher cement strength, and the maker says roughness complaints are virtually eliminated because the surface can be polished to a uniform luster. SGM's Durazzo is a pre-blended polished marble of natural marble aggregates and cement, sold in Ocean Floor, Slate, French Gray and Cerulean Seas, with each 80 lb bag covering about 22 to 25 square feet at 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

Polished pebble

Wet Edge hand-polishes the whole surface of its Primera Stone with diamond grit pads after the finish cures. Pebble Technology International calls PebbleBreeze its smoothest finish, buff-polished and mixed with glass beads and a shell blend, and describes PebbleBrilliance as polished glass beads blended with natural stone for a smoother feel than its pebble-only lines. The textured end of the same family is pebble pool finishes.

Polished glass and glass-bead blends

NPT's PolishedScapes is marble and glass aggregate polished with diamond abrasives, the smoothest of NPT's finishes. Premix-Marbletite's HydroGlass mixes polymer-modified cement with multi-color polished glass and, the maker says, goes on in half the time of standard glass-bead finishes. NPT's JewelScapes, an exposed glass-bead finish, goes on 3/8 to 5/8 inch thick. For glass as the whole surface rather than an aggregate, see glass tile pool finishes; for colored quartz left unpolished, quartz pool finishes.

How a polished finish is applied, exposed and polished

On a pool being refinished, CL Industries undercuts at least 3 inches around all tile, return lines, light fixtures and main drains and applies an approved scratch coat before Hydrazzo. Its two Hydrazzo documents differ on thickness, 3/8 inch to 1 inch on the 2024 data sheet and 3/8 to 3/4 inch on the application sheet, and both warn against going too thin, which can dry too fast and crack or craze. CL Industries also calls for at least one finish plasterer per 300 square feet.

Exposing the aggregate

CL Industries exposes Hydrazzo the same day after at least 4 hours of curing at 80°F and rising, or overnight if the finish was well troweled, leaving the acid on for about 30 seconds before rinsing. It warns that excess cement paste left on the surface cures unevenly into graying, blotching and mottling, and that white-aggregate pools are harder to expose because there is no colored quartz to aim for. SGM cures Durazzo overnight and acid-washes it the next morning, starting with a 50/50 solution of muriatic acid and water.

Polishing with diamond abrasives

SGM polishes Durazzo lightly with a 70-grit hone diamond disk, one pass in most cases, and a second pass with a 120-grit disk in high-contact areas such as swim-outs and spas. CL Industries polishes Hydrazzo with its Triton tool at no more than 4,000 psi, keeps the diamonds away from the tile line so they can't scratch the tile, and switches to hand pads for corners, steps, benches and light fixtures. It warns that metallic sanding discs or hydraulic-oil polishing equipment can permanently ruin a cement finish's cure, which it says takes up to a year, the initial curing usually stopping after 28 to 60 days.

Preparing an older Rockwall pool for a polished finish

Before a polished finish goes on an older pool, CL Industries' renovation advice starts with metal: replace metal fittings and pipe with plastic and bronze gate valves with plastic ball valves, put bypasses on heaters, and stop using metallic algaecides. In a pool that is already stained, it lowers the pH and adds a sequestering agent for at least a week before the new finish, to release metal held in the plumbing. On the supply side, the City of Rockwall's 2025 water report lists iron and aluminum below detection in the North Texas Municipal Water District's plant figures. Rockwall Pool Resurfacing will walk through that list with you before the drain.

Cold mornings and plastering days

CL Industries applies Hydrazzo at 40°F and rising, with the air at 60°F and rising. At Lavon Dam, the nearest NOAA station with temperature normals, the average January low is 34.2°F (1991–2020), and Rockwall's airport weather station recorded 16 freezing nights in 2026 through September 29, the coldest 14°F on January 25.

Polished pool finish questions and answers

What is the most expensive type of pool finish?

Tile, by the published figures: national 2025 figures call resurfacing with tile the costliest and most labor-intensive option, at $8,000 to $30,000 or more. Among cement-based finishes, the National Plasterers Council puts polished and pebble together in its upgraded cost tier, above affordable quartz and economical white plaster, and national cost figures place Pebble Technology International's PebbleFina and PebbleBrilliance at a higher price point than its standard PebbleSheen.

How much does a polished pool finish cost?

Few prices are published. National figures for 2026 put polished marble such as Hydrazzo at roughly $8 to $11 per square foot installed, overlapping the low end of pebble; no dependable Dallas–Fort Worth figure for a polished finish was found. Rockwall Pool Resurfacing prices the pool free once it has seen it, and the guide to pool finishes compared sets polished beside the other finishes.

How long does a polished pool finish last?

The National Plasterers Council rates polished finishes an 8 to 12 year surface. Wet Edge says its Primera Stone can outlast its warranty with proper care and that any finish's life depends on water balance, use, maintenance and local conditions. The warranties differ: Wet Edge gives Primera Stone 15 years on residential pools and 7 on commercial ones, registered within 60 days and installed by a certified Wet Edge installer; CL Industries warrants Hydrazzo for 10 years against manufacturing defect when a factory-approved applicator puts it on; and SGM's extended warranty for Durazzo is 5 years, residential only. Those are the makers' terms, not ours, and not lifespans.

Is a polished pool finish slippery?

That depends on the aggregate and where it sits. NPT's published wet friction tests (dynamic coefficient of friction) give 0.24 for its 100% glass-bead JewelScapes against 0.69 for QuartzScapes Ivory and 0.66 to 0.73 for its StoneScapes pebble finishes; NPT gives the numbers without drawing a safety conclusion from them. The National Plasterers Council advises that steps, benches and walk-out areas shouldn't be overly smooth, to prevent slipping.

Can a polished pool finish be polished again?

Yes, the makers say, within limits. CL Industries says Hydrazzo can be restored by polishing without resurfacing, and suggests leaving the homeowner a used polishing pad for later stains or rough spots; NPT says PolishedScapes can be re-polished throughout its life and claims polishing extends a finish's service life. Wet Edge says Primera Stone can often be repolished after mineral buildup or staining once a certified applicator has looked at it, though severe buildup, staining or etching may limit what polishing can do. No maker says how often a pool will need it.
